23 Mobile Things - Thing 2: Mobile Device Tips

My devices are the iPad and an HTC Evo.

I was almost relieved to learn where the search function was on the iPad. After I updated to iOS 7, I kept swiping left to no avail. I use the search function quite a bit! I appreciate the quick access to basic functions from the bottom of the screen. As a media specialist, I am often asked to help staff manage their batteries on Apple products, so the battery information was quite useful.

The video on the HTC was designed for the HTC One, so my Evo didn't have quite a few of the functions. I found a video about the HTC Evo, and it was quite helpful. I moved some apps to the internal storage, played with some functions that I didn't know existed and learned a bit more about the camera app.

Starting again: 23 Mobile Things - Thing 1

I don't normally get that excited about taking a class, but I learned SO much from the last Things class. I joined Facebook (which is now a Big Thing in my life), learned quite a bit about social networking, and ended up teaching a class based on what I'd learned. It was one of the most beneficial classes I've taken.

I am surrounded with technology, even more so now than when I took the first session. Kids in the middle school are also immersed in tech culture. I'm looking at this as a way to expand my knowledge base, learn about sites that kids frequent, and perhaps developing a mobile Things class for district staff.

I haven't posted to the blog in a number of years. It's interesting to look back and see which sites are still active. Tech world moves and grooves pretty fast!

SlideShare

Been awhile since I posted! I discovered this little gem today. I haven't spent much time with it, but it looks like I could use it for a Cool Things class.

This is a slideshow sharing site. I stumbed across it when I was looking for a refresher on art elements and principles. Lots of slideshows to use: Slideshare.

Ooooohhh..this is cool. A few years ago I was looking for a similar software app, and it was several hundred bucks. This room designing software is pretty well-rounded and FREE!! Whee!

Timelines

This is pretty nifty. I've often missed the good ol' Timeliner program. It was pretty quick and easy. I like this one because you can add multimedia files to it.

Of course, I found this on GoWeb2.0 - best site EVER.

Moving on

This is as good a place as any to add new things I've learned. I really like both of these sites. They're filled with how-to videos and step-by-steps. A number of 5th and 6th grade teachers require their students to create how-to speeches. I'm going to recommend these sites to them as a guide, or starting-off point:

I need to learn how to fix books, since I will lose my secretary next year. This is from Graspr:
